Reading
Situated in the Thames valley, with fast access to London and the south coast, Reading is a thriving town and home to many global companies, including Compaq, Oracle and Microsoft.
A natural geographic location for trade and commerce, Reading is situated by the river Thames, the Kennet and Avon canal and the M4 motorway. In addition there is an Intercity rail link from Reading mainline railway station to London Paddington (30 mins). The town expanded dramatically during the industrial revolution and the Victorian era, funded in part by corporate benefactors such as George Palmer or Huntley and Palmers biscuits and this legacy of economic growth can be found in the abundance of architecture on view, from the grandeur of the regency townhouses in central Reading and Castle Hill to the west, to the working class Victoria terrace homes in both east and west Reading.
Over the last few decades Reading has undergone an improvement in civic amenities, including new recreational and sporting facilities such as Rivermead leisure centre, cultural and arts centres, including Reading's Hexagon theatre, new shopping developments, most notably the world class Oracle shopping centre in central Reading, which in addition to excellent shopping, boasts a cinema village and a wide range of dining experiences.
